 Volunteers

Becoming a Ramona Air Show Benefit Volunteer has many benefits.  Your contributions can help continue the Ramona Air Show Benefit mission to promote aviation education, air safety, and aerial Fire Fighting.  You can meet and work directly with some of the most interesting and experienced individuals in aviation today.  Our enthusiasm comes from our ability to offer a venue where you and other volunteers can use your talents to contribute to what we all have in common, the love of aviation.  You do not have to be a pilot, if aviation interests you, you are welcome to share your time and talents.

Our volunteers come before or during our event and blend their talents with those who have already been long at work.  These combined efforts make the Ramona Air Show Benefit memorable event for those visiting as well those involved.   All areas of the Air Show benefit from these dedicated volunteers.

What to bring:

PROPER CLOTHING
The weather during the Air Show can range from the cool and overcast in the mornings and evenings to the 80's -  90's during mid-day.   It is important to dress accordingly and be prepared for any weather condition.  Wear loose-fitting, light colored clothing to protect from the direct rays of the sun. Long sleeve shirts and comfortable long pants are the best.  It is usually cool and breezy in the morning and evening so bring a sweatshirt or jacket to provide protection and warmth.  Sun-safe habits include wearing sunglasses that provide 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB protection, wearing a hat with a wide brim offers good sun protection for eyes, ears, face, and the back of the neck - areas particularly prone to sun exposure, and always applying a sunscreen of at least 15 SPF before going outside.

WATER
Bring plenty of water to keep hydrated.  Standing in the mid-day sun and heat can greatly accelerate dehydration.

SUNSCREEN
Bring more than you think you will need as you can never have too much. Put sunscreen on before going out into the sun. Put sunscreen on balding areas as well as the part in your hair. Put sunscreen on your ears! Put sunscreen on your feet when wearing open shoes!

LIP BALM
The best kind has sunscreen. Continually use high SPF lip balm on your lips, nose, and upper cheeks.

COMFORTABLE SHOES
You will be on your feet the whole time you are working not to mention all the planes you will have to see and vendors to visit. Make sure your shoes are comfortable and broken in to avoid blisters. You will be doing a lot of walking.

EAR PLUGS
It can get pretty noisy along the flight line. Bring ear plugs to protect your hearing when the "big iron" taxies by.

CAMERA/FILM/VIDEO TAPE/FLASH MEMORY
Memories are best preserved on film, video tape, or flash memory. Don't forget your camera! Don't forget the film, video tape, or flash memory also. Always have extra.

BATTERIES
Bring enough of all of the types of batteries for your cameras, radios, and other equipment. It may be tough to find a specialized camera battery should yours run down.

CELLULAR PHONE
Phone companies are cutting back on portable payphone support at events due to the proliferation of cellular phones. Don't forget your cellular phone - and the charger.

MONEY
Like all events, things cost money. T-shirts, food, admission, and all of the great stuff at the fly market all cost money. Make sure you bring enough to cover your planned purchases and a little extra.
